Course Title:

Employee Relations

Directorate:

Target Audience:

All Governors of Nursery, Primary, Post-Primary and Special Schools.

Aims:

•          Overview of ER processes and their importance

•          Understanding approaches to informal resolution

Course Objectives/ Outcomes:

By the end of the session Governors will:

  • Understand the role of Board of Governors, Principal and Human Resources in Employee Relations matters

  • Be aware of the legal framework for dealing with disciplinary, grievance and dignity at work matters and the different procedures for teaching and non-teaching employees

  • Understand the difference between conduct and capability

  • Have an understanding of the difference between grievances and dignity at work/bullying and harassment

  • Understand how to useand benefits of the informal approach to resolve employee relations issues

  • Have an awareness of initiating formal procedures and associated toolkits

Format/

Duration:

•          PowerPoint presentation with narrative and accompanying booklet

•          1 hour approximately

Notes:

In advance of the session, it would be helpful for participants to review the relevant employee relations policies and procedures in relation to:

•             Disciplinary

•             Grievance

•             Dignity at Work/Bullying & Harassment

 

Also to read the accompanying booklet for the presentation.

  • In advance of the session, it would be helpful for participants to have attended the course entitled ‘Understanding Diversity and Inclusion’.
