Governor Training - Employee Relations

Target Audience:

All Governors of Nursery, Primary, Post-Primary and Special Schools.

Aims:

• Overview of Employee Relations and their importance
• Understanding approaches to informal resolution

Course Objectives/ Outcomes:

It is expected that participants will:

• Be aware of the legal framework for dealing with disciplinary, grievance and dignity at work matters and the different procedures for teaching and non-teaching employees.
• Understand how to approach informal resolution of employee relations issues and the benefits.
• Have an overview of precautionary suspension process.
• Have an overview of the process involved in preparing for and conducting an investigation.
• Have an overview of the process involved in conducting a hearing or an appeal.
• Understand what to expect at an Independent Appeal facilitated by the Labour Relations Agency (LRA)

Format/ Duration:

• Face to face

• 2 – 2.5 hours

• PowerPoint presentation and group work with practical examples

Notes:

In advance of the session, it would be helpful for participants to review the relevant employee relations policies and procedures in relation to:

• Disciplinary
• Grievance
• Dignity at Work/Bullying & Harassment

In advance of the session, it would be helpful for participants to have attended the course entitled ‘Understanding Diversity and Inclusion’.
