3. Developing Phonological Awareness in the Classroom

Aims and Objectives

This whole day course aims to provide participants with:

• An overview of how Phonological Awareness is a critical Language and Communication skill that affects a pupil's ability to learn and access the curriculum.
• An opportunity to explore the gradual and sequential stages in understanding sound patterns and the structures of language.
• Opportunities to engage in practical workshop activities; exploring strategies and resources to support the development of Phonological Awareness in the classroom or at home.
• Opportunities to identify and disseminate best practice in meeting the needs of pupils with Language and Communication difficulties, especially in the area of Phonological Awareness.
