The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (NI) 2016:

Training for School Governors

Governors of mainstream Primary and Post-Primary Schools

Aims:

 

  • This course will inform Governors as to various elements of the implementation process of the SEND Act (NI) 2016 and to the statutory duty of Boards of Governors of mainstream schools in relation to pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Course Objectives/ Outcomes:

  •   To raise awareness of the current and new legislation in regard to pupils with SEN
  • To update school Governors on the progress of the statutory effect of the full implementation of the SEND Act (Northern Ireland) 2016.
  • To identify the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Governors within the new SEN framework.
  • To inform the quality assurance role of the Board of Governors in overseeing SEN Provision and in supporting pupils with special educational needs.

Format/

Duration:

 ·    4 short digital programmes (PowerPoints with voice-over)

      c.15-20 mins. per programme – 90 mins. max
