Presenter: Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Community Resuscitation Lead Michael Allen
This session explores the 'What' of the Community of Lifesavers programme - what pupils are expected to learn, what lifesaving knowledge and skills look like in practice and what schools need to deliver high-quality CPR and AED education at Key Stage 3.
Led by the Community Resuscitation Lead from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), the session will unpack the core components of CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) awareness, reflecting regional initiatives that aim to strengthen community readiness to respond to cardiac arrest. Participants will gain clarity on what constitutes effective lifesaving education, how it aligns with the statutory curriculum requirements introduced in 2022 and what practical, accessible approaches can be used in classrooms to empower young people to act in an emergency.
