Phonological Awareness

“The impact of SLCN is well documented in longitudinal studies. Without the right support, SLCN has been shown to affect academic achievement, self-esteem, social acceptance and behavioural or emotional development.” (ICAN, 2009)     

The course is online and will be delivered via pre-recorded videos. There modules will be available to Cohorts for two months from the start dates provided. If your school hasn’t yet opted in for Google Classroom, you will need to follow the guidance given on C2K exchange (Information sheet EN121) before accessing this course.

There will be opportunities for you to try out suggested activities with your class/small groups/individual children along with a range of resources and research links. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions to the Specialist Language Teachers ahead of a webinar to conclude the course.

Through this course you will;

• develop a greater understanding of the term ‘Phonological Awareness’
• understand the developmental processes involved in Phonological Awareness
• recognise the impact of phonological awareness on a pupil’s ability to access the curriculum.
• become aware of a range of practical strategies and resources to support the development of Phonological awareness.
