SEND Implementation and SENCo Support

This learning area contains modules of SEND training resources and guidance materials for SENCos/Learning Support Coordinators, senior leaders, teaching and non-teaching staff in schools and educational settings. It replaces the old SEND Website which will no longer be accessible. Click on the ‘Documents’ link on the menu on the right of the Dashboard page to find the following topic areas:

AIMS:

 

To provide an understanding of changes to the SEN Framework To share updates on changes to legislation, regulations and the draft Code of Practice To host resources and materials to support staff who are working with children and young people with SEN in your school or setting.

Professional Development for Classroom Assistants and Support Staff in Pre-School Settings to Support Children with Severe and Complex Learning Needs

Expression of Interest

To increase confidence in support staff to assist the learning and development of children presenting with complex needs in mainstream settings. This course is face to face delivered by SEND Early Years Service. It will be delivered over 6 sessions and will focus on the practical aspects of working with children with severe and complex SEN.

1. An overview of the role of the Support Assistant and the importance of forming positive relationships and interactions with children.

2. An overview of Stages of Development taking cognisance of the profile of a child with severe learning difficulties and relating this to pre-school play based learning.

3. An understanding of the inclusive environment to promote interaction, communication and learning.

4. An exploration of the importance of sensory systems in self-regulation and regulating emotions.

5. An overview of observation techniques and the use/purpose of baselines and checklists to inform practice.

6. Practical experiences in applying specific strategies and resources to a range of case studies.

Course Duration:

· Modules will be 1 ½ - 2 hours over 6 sessions.

Target Audience

· Support staff in pre-school settings.

Location:

· Face to face training delivered by SEND Early Years Service.

Leadership and Management of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND): A Programme for Non-Statutory Provision (NSEYP)

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST ONLY

Training Aim: 

This Professional Learning & Development Programme aims to improve the skills of Pre-School leaders to manage SEND, enabling them to put processes in place to support the pupils in their settings.

Course Structure/Content:

This programme has been specifically structured into three parts to: 

Session 1:
Discuss key legislation and resources in relation to SEND and outline the roles and responsibilities of staff.

Session 2:
Explore the self-evaluation and action planning process to reflect, identify and prioritise areas for improvement.

Session 3:
Outline a process to create an effective Individual Education Plan (IEP)/ Personal Learning Plan (PLP).

Course Duration:

9:30am - 12:30pm
