Delivering Social Change: Shared Education Signature Project Teacher Professional Learning Modules

The aim of these modules is to provide teachers and school leaders from all phases with a clear learning framework that will enhance skills, capacity and confidence to embed effective practice in Shared Education.

Please note that Registration begins at 9:15am.  All Modules to commence at 9:30am. These modules are designed to be attended by schools in partnership. It is very important that participants try wherever possible to attend together.

Blended Approaches for Digital Literacy

Some of the best opportunities for active learning are found within literacy. This structured workshop will step participants through tried and tested teaching methods that blend creativity, literacy and ICT together in a manner that will enrich learning and engage your students within a Shared Education classroom.  The approach is highly flexible and designed so that it can be adopted progressively throughout your shared education partnership and within most teaching scenarios including those where access to ICT resources might be limited.

Practical Strategies for Emotional Well-Being and Resilience in a Shared Society

The programme material will allow Teachers to delve further into the world of children’s anxiety and wellbeing, resulting in a greater awareness and understanding of it.  Important topics including ‘talking to children about anxiety’ and ‘being vigilant of mental health and well-being’ will be explored.  In addition participants will receive an accreditation in QPR Suicide Prevention Training.
The programme will act as a pro-active, strategic and pre-emptive aid for schools and equip participants with a skill set on how to deal with potentially difficult situations within a school, partnership or the wider community.

Embedding Shared Pupil Engagement through CRED

The CRED (Community Relations Equality and Diversity) Policy aims to develop in young people knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities they may encounter in an increasingly diverse contemporary society; and an understanding of their role in working for a more inclusive, just and democratic society where equality is fully accepted and discrimination actively discouraged.

The teaching of CRED provides opportunities across the curriculum for young people to discuss issues and links directly into the areas of PDMU, LLW and Citizenship.
This two day module will look at creative ways to support pupil engagement through Shared Education.  Participants will have an opportunity to look at the use of Film and other innovative mediums to support pupil voice within their schools in order to address the key areas of CRED.

The purpose of this TPL Module will be to provide participants with an understanding of key strategies and resources that can support the delivery of highly effective shared education in relation to teaching and learning.  A focus on planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating will form the basis of the module. Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, consider a range of approaches to delivering effective teaching and learning in shared education and become familiar with ‘A Pupil Pathway for Shared Education.’  Which has been developed to support teachers.

Embedding Shared Education through STEM

This module will equip teachers with the resources, the skills and the content knowledge to deliver highly engaging STEM lessons to students within their shared education partnerships.  Targeted at KS2, participants will explore a range of classroom projects that have been designed to evoke creativity and to nurture curiosity, inquiry and problem-solving amongst learners. 

A handbook will be provided as part of this workshop and whilst activities have a strong STEM focus, they are cross-curricular in nature, highly collaborative and applicable to a range of topics, classroom situations and non-subject specialist practitioners.

Embedding Shared Education through Art & Design

This workshop aims to directly address the criteria outlined within the Pupil Pathway for Shared Education document through the medium of Art. Practitioners involved will explore and experiment with various materials and methods of making within Art. Participants will develop critical studies knowledge, and also the practical skills with resources necessary to successfully deliver 2D, 3D and Print Art projects.  This will meet specific shared education criteria in conjunction with National Curriculum requirements within Art, in an interactive and engaging environment.

Using C2k eLearning tools to Enhance Shared Education (2 Day Module)

This two day course will provide teachers with time and support to explore the eLearning tools within C2k MySchool.  You will learn how these software titles can support collaboration and improve communication and engagement online.  These sessions are hands-on practical workshops with support and guidance on hand from C2k staff. 

Day 1: Teachers will get the opportunity to look at the following software; Audio Network, Media Library, Equella, Fronter and Pathe News. More time will be spent looking at and showcasing opportunities for partnerships in using; C2k NewsDesk, Collaborate Ultra, Office 365 and Google Suite. 

Teachers decide which software they want to look at in greater detail from the list below.  A two week period from Day 1 to Day 2 will afford teachers some time to implement ideas they have learnt on 1 Day 1 and feedback to others on Day 2. 

Day 2: O365 or Google Suite and Collaborate Ultra (videoconferencing).

NB If your partnership is keen to explore Office 365 and/or Google Suite both principals must have opted into these services via C2k Exchange.

Exploring Shared Education through Playful Learning

This module is designed to develop teachers’ competence and confidence in their ability to guarantee educational value within their playful approach to teaching and learning, across a shared education partnership.  A range of topics will be addressed including designing a play-based and integrated learning environment for shared activity; ensuring progression within play-based activity; the role of the playful teacher in young children’s learning and the observation, planning and assessment cycle to ensure effective learning within a shared education context.

Leading a Learning Organisation within a Shared Partnership/Network

This module will provide participants with an understanding of the features and strategies necessary to lead a Learning Organisation into partnerships and wider networks. 

Identifying the appropriate conditions to create a culture/ethos of collaboration, based on academic research. 

Participants will develop an understanding of the shared education ethos and the opportunities that partnership working can bring to organisations performance. Opportunities to share best practice, recognise when and how collaboration can support educational outcomes and explore overall school improvement will feature

Digital Art & Design to Support Shared Education (2 Day Module)

Target Audience - Primary Any teacher with an interest in developing their digital skills with a particular emphasis on design, photography, working with digital images and visual literacy.
It would also be relevant to a Using ICT co-ordinator or Art and Design co-ordinator who wants to develop these elements of the curriculum throughout their school.

This is a two-day workshop with hands on practical activities to explore and build confidence in using variety of digital tools to support Art and Design. It complements the CCEA Using ICT resource Digital Art and Design and develops progression in each of the elements of the Art and Design curriculum from Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 1 and 2. There is a focus on self-expression, identity, storytelling, critical thinking, reflection and the use of imagery as a persuasive tool. The ideas and activities provided are ideally suited to integrate into existing shared education topics to enhance learning and collaboration or to develop a new shared practice art and design project. The training is designed to illustrate how these digital activities can develop educational outcomes described in the Shared Education Progression Pathway.
 
Day 1 will introduce you to a variety of techniques and skills including photography and digital art.

Day 2 will allow you to use your new skills to create your own piece of digital art using mixed media (digital and non-digital materials) with a combination of apps. You will also have time on Day 2 to consider how to plan for classroom projects. The workshop will focus on the use of mobile digital devices e.g iPads or other tablets and mobile phones as most of the activities are designed to be used with this type of technology.

Digital Audio: Music and Sound to Support Shared Education (2 Day Module)

Target Audience - Primary Any teacher with an interest in developing their digital skills with a particular emphasis on music technology and sound recording technology to enhance existing classroom practice across the curriculum.
It would also be relevant to a Using ICT co-ordinator or Music co-ordinator who wants to develop these elements of the curriculum throughout their school.

This is a two-day workshop with hands on practical activities to explore and build confidence in working with digital sound technology such as simple Foundation Stage apps, online tools and GarageBand. There are a range of ideas and activities that can be used across the different year group in school to complement the CCEA resource Digital Audio: Music and Sound in the Primary Classroom.  It includes activities which are more musical and allow digital technology to be used as an accessible musical instrument. There are also other activities which focus on creating and editing sounds. The activities promote working in groups and encourage enjoyment of making music with others and promote participation, social inclusion and shared musical experiences. It is aimed at every teacher not just music specialists or ICT co-ordinators.
 
There is a focus on self-expression, identity, storytelling, critical thinking, reflection and the use of sound as a persuasive tool. The ideas and activities provided are ideally suited to integrate into existing education topics to enhance learning and collaboration. There are opportunities to consider how these skills can be used across the curriculum particularly in developing media skills such as interviewing and podcasting.
 
The training is designed to illustrate how these digital activities can develop educational outcomes described in the Shared Education Progression Pathway and can be managed practically with larger and smaller groups with ideas of how schools can use these technologies to continue shared working through face to face meetings and continued contact using online tools.

The workshop will include activities that can be used with tablet, PC and other types of hardware including the use of recording devices.

Target Audience – Primary / Music Coordinators or Leaders of Music within Partnership Schools

Music in the classroom is made up of many components which are intrinsically linked; these should be developed within each year group throughout the Primary School.  For music to be successful, there must be a logical and coherent progression between each year group.

This 2 day module aims to:
