Post-Primary SENCo Cluster Training - Annual Review Process in the Post-Primary Setting

Aims

The Education (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 requires that any child or young person who is the subject of a Statement of Special Educational Needs must be reviewed by the EA annually. Schools conduct this Annual Review on behalf of the EA. This cluster aims to ensure that all SENCos are fully informed about the Annual Review Process. 

Objectives

SENCos; 

• will understand the purpose of Annual Reviews for Children with Special Educational Needs.
• will be provided with clear guidance on the process for conducting Annual Reviews and be made aware of the EA Annual Review Guidance materials
• will be informed about the procedures for Transfer and Transition Reviews
• will discuss ways of ensuring pupil involvement in their Annual Reviews
• will be made aware of procedures for correspondence with the  EA regarding the necessary documentation for Annual Reviews

Time

1pm - 3pm (Registration and Tea/Coffee will be from 12.45pm)

*This cluster is most suitable for SENCos who have no previous experience or training on conducting Annual Reviews. The content will reflect the current statutory requirements of the 1998 Code of Practice.
