Overview

The Primary Children Looked After Advisory Service are pleased to invite you to this full‑day online workshop, delivered by Dr Karen Treisman, MBE, Clinical Psychologist, Author, and Trainer.

This thought-provoking workshop explores the powerful impact that language has on how we perceive, describe, and respond to others. The session encourages participants to reflect on the words used in conversations, professional records, meetings, and everyday practice, and how language can influence attitudes, biases, relationships, and outcomes.

Drawing on trauma-informed principles and examples from education, social care, fostering, and residential settings, attendees will develop a greater awareness of how language can be either healing or harmful. The workshop offers practical strategies to support more thoughtful, respectful, and person-centred communication, helping professionals use language with greater care, sensitivity, and intentionality.
