CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) TRAINING AND AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) AWARENESS- TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITY

In March 2022, legislation came into effect stating that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must be included in the minimum statutory content in Learning for Life and Work at Key Stage 3. CCEA has partnered with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), the Department of Education (DE) and the Education Authority to create the Community of Lifesavers Education Programme to support schools in meeting this requirement.

To continue to support schools deliver the statutory element of the Community of Lifesavers Education Programme, you are invited to attend one day of face-to-face training which will focus on the practical and essential CPR and AED lifesaving skills.   This TPL opportunity will be delivered by the NIAS in a range of venues across the province.

This training is for:

  • Teachers delivering CPD and AED awareness to pupils for the first time from September 2025

OR

  • Experienced teachers who have been delivering CPD and AED awareness to pupils for 2 years or more (those trained in 2022-2023, 2023-2024) who are eligible to have their training refreshed.

Guidance from the NIAS advises these lifesaving skills should be refreshed every 2 years, in line with current best practice for the train the trainer model.

Sub cover will be provided, and schools will be reimbursed after attendance (when booking a supply teacher on NISTR use code S - School Miscellaneous).

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Please use 'Book Now' green button to select and book a training venue and date. Training runs from 9.15am-3.30pm.

Your personal information will be shared with NI Ambulance Service, CCEA and DE. who are involved in the delivery of this Professional Learning Programme.  It will not be shared or processed for any other purpose without your express consent.
