Augmentative & Alternative Communication – promoting an awareness of AAC within Specialist Provisions

Aim:

This Professional Learning & Development Programme aims to develop staff awareness of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and how AAC may be used within the classroom to support pupil’s communication.

Structure/Content:

This session has been specifically developed to support the following:

1. Developing a foundational understanding of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and inclusive communication.​
2. Becoming familiar with a range of AAC (unaided, aided, paper-based, powered) and how these can be used to promote pupil’s communication.​
3. Reflecting on the importance of pupil voice and how we respond to pupils in a positive and supportive way.​
