Professional Learning -> TPL Thursdays!

TPL Thursdays! is a programme of bitesize professional learning designed to support the busy teacher. Webinars take place on a Thursday afternoon between 3.45 pm and 4.30 pm. These short sessions are focused on ideas and practice that can be implemented immediately in the classroom with the intention of impacting on pupil outcomes.

The final webinar explores the theme of empowering boys in education, drawing on the evidence-based Boys' & Young Men's Quadrant. The Quadrant is a new online resource for educators. It includes the Empowering Boys Questionnaire, tested with over 1100 students, with 25 scaled questions that invites reflections on voice, influence, interdependence, belonging and being a boy in schools. The webinar will include:

An opportunity to complete the Empowering Boys Questionnaire from the perspective of a young person faced with compounded educational disadvantage; Engagement with intentional practice resources from https://www.theboyquadrant.org/intentional-practice; Guidance on how to implement the Boys' & Young Men's Quadrant to embed and enhance relational empowerment within your educational context.

The webinar will spotlight active and enquiry-led approaches that keep expectations high while fostering curiosity and deep understanding. Throughout, we will connect primary pedagogy to key aspects of the Empowering Improvement Framework - particularly curriculum and assessment - helping teachers reflect on how to design learning that is both ambitious and responsive to the needs of all children.

In this session, we turn our focus to what successful teaching looks like within rich, subject-specialist environments across the post-primary phase. Participants will explore approaches that bring challenge, clarity and curiosity to the forefront of classroom practice, including effective explanation, high-quality questioning and responsive teaching that meets learners where they are. This webinar highlights how strong disciplinary knowledge and thoughtful pedagogy work together to promote progression and strengthen learner agency. Teachers will also be supported to reflect on their own practice through the lens of the Empowering Improvement Framework, considering how to design subject-rich learning that is ambitious, adaptive and impactful for all young people.
