About this event

As more Early Career Teachers begin their induction in specialist provisions, schools are navigating new complexities in supporting them.  This professional learning day offers a focused, practical introduction to the realities of specialist settings, bringing ECTs and their Teacher Tutors together to build shared understanding, confidence and effective support.  Participants will gain insight into specialist teaching approaches, collaborate with experienced practitioners and strengthen the induction experience for teachers working with learners with complex needs.

By the end of the session, ECTs and Teacher Tutors will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of how induction and EPD expectations apply within specialist provision settings.
  • Recognise how the GTCNI values and competencies underpin effective professional practice in specialist provisions and how these connect to induction requirements.
  • Explore practical strategies for teaching, learning and engagement with pupils who have a wide range of complex needs, informed by experienced practitioners.
  • Reflect on practice and identify evidence that supports ECT portfolio development.
  • Build confidence in using specialist resources, routines and approaches that promote positive learning experiences.
  • Strengthen professional connections through collaboration and shared learning across specialist provisions.
